in the beginning, there was chaos |
|
Not long ago in a village deep in the Southern California hills, where ladies lunch, nonfat lattes are queen, and nary a man knows his neighbor, a small herd of would-be internet visionaries (or so we like to think) set out to solve the biggest problem we found in our day-to-day lives (besides lack of wi-fi at our local Best Burrito Shop): Finding the online videos we wanted was as difficult as getting a Mike Patton melody out of our collective heads.
As we looked out on the viral video landscape, we noticed a sort of convergence. Social networking became a part of our vernacular, broadband use rose, and those who couldn’t differentiate a Scorsese film from such Razzies notables as Gigli started making their own, uh, masterpieces. Even the stalwart TV networks began creating online-only programming. 400 sites (and counting) hosted video of some kind, translating to millions of clips. The only thing missing was a navigational and content guide, a tool similar to what we used for old-school TV but that would now direct us to our online videos of choice.
So we created one. It’s now time to share it with all of you, fellow internet revolutionaries (insert computer-generated drum roll here): Viambo. |

what’s viambo? |
| |
Viambo’s mission is to make it easy for you to find the best in video – via navigation and sophisticated commentary. We save you from searching through thousands of not-so-cool choices to find what you want. We’re a free online video directory, leading you to obscure clips sites, the latest comedy video, or the episode of your favorite show you missed last week. Alas, we strive to save the world from boring video.
Viambo lets you stay in the video know with tools like:
• Channel Guide: Go to the video you want, or browse for something new.
• Reviews: Read the Viambo staff writers’ take on channels big and small.
• Showcases: Be delighted (or perhaps dismayed) by the videos highlighted here.
• Forums: Talk back – or shut up and listen. Either way, you’ll learn something.
• Features: Stay tuned for upcoming additions, from the political to smarter sharing. |

video, now in order |
| |
As we continue to grow, our site will be more and more created by you, oh trusted future viral video darling – or obsessive clip evangelist. Whether you’re a quieter-than-Kenny wallflower or the girl who thinks Jackass clips are as witty and sardonic as her collection of David Sedaris, we may look to you to share your voice. In the meantime, you can let us know what video diamonds in the muck we may not have yet discovered.
Enjoy Viambo’s view – and the way we’ve brought order to the ever-expanding world of online video.
